- Purpose: This article investigates the conditions under which learning and innovation occur within nursing homes. It addresses the interplay between formal and informal learning situations and discusses how these processes facilitate individual staff and workplaces’ capacity for innovation. Design/methodology/approach: Data was produced via fieldwork, which included participant observations, conversations, and research interviews with staff and managers at a Norwegian nursing home. The article is inspired by situated learning theories and communities of practice, as the social context emerges as the site where learning and innovation are cultivated. Findings: The nursing home sustains a learning environment through managers and staff’s participation in planned learning situations and thereby highlights a focus on learning in their everyday practices. The conditions for the interplay between planned learning situations and everyday learning practices are identified as the effort to create a “joint enterprise” and reflexive practices. Social implications: The Global North is aging. Consequently, there is an increasing need for facilities and adequately trained professionals to support an aging population. Addressing these challenges will require an increased focus on developing supportive learning environments and furthering our knowledge about the interconnections between learning processes and innovation. Value: This article contributes knowledge regarding nursing homes as professionally exciting places to work. Additionally, it points out conditions that allow for learning and innovation to be cultivated and thereby increase the quality of elderly healthcare services provided.

- The paper explores barriers for designing and implementing policies for the transition to more environmentally sustainable urban mobility, and strategies for overcoming these barriers in three Norwegian cities. Empirical data has been collected by interviewing key informants and analysing relevant documents. The findings show that there is broad political support for placing sustainable mobility high on the political agenda. Challenges appear when policy measures are designed and implemented. Cultural, legal, political, organisational, financial and knowledge-related barriers are identified. Many similar barriers are identified in the three case cities, but differences also appear. The results indicate that the size of the cities as well as the type of policy packages implemented are important factors, impacting both the type and strength of barriers. Several strategies for overcoming barriers have been implemented in the three case cities with success. The implementation of policy packages with a combination of “push” and “pull” measures is perhaps the most important strategy. In addition, using communication strategically and allowing for trials and step-by-step introduction of policy measures are success factors. Better methods for stakeholder involvement and planning tools for bicyclists and pedestrians may increase the acceptance of policy measures and speed up the transition toward sustainable mobility.Forskere: Kjersti Granås Bardal, Arild Gjertsen, Mathias Brynildsen Reinar

- This chapter analyses experiences of violence among queer immigrants in Norway. The aim of the chapter is to explore the various experiences of violence, and how vulnerability to violence is related to the wider patterns of discrimination and juridical, economic and social marginalisation. Based on an inductive analysis of interviews with 41 lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people with immigrant backgrounds, we have identified four key themes: 1) Sexual abuse, 2) violence in relation to coming out as queer, 3) exposure to violence within Norwegian institutions dealing with immigration and integration, and 4) racism and violence. The experiences of violence that the participants talk about include violence from family members, acquaintances, strangers and representatives of public institutions. In order to understand queer immigrants’ experiences of violence, it is necessary to focus on the interconnectedness of various forms of violence that take place in different arenas and in different relationships. Moreover, violence needs to be understood in connection to discrimination and marginalisation based on the status as immigrant and queer.Forskere: Helga Eggebø, Elisabeth Stubberud
