Maiken Bjørkan and Nordland Research Institute (NRI) will coordinate one of the biggest projects in our history.

Horizon Europe is funding the project EmpowerUs with 60 million NOK over the next three years.
Maiken Bjørkan, research professor at NRI, was headhunted to lead this project, which she have been working towards all her professional life.
– EmpowerUs is about enabling coastal communities to act for change and transition towards sustainable, inclusive and resilient coastal developments, Bjørkan says.
– For me this is a dream project. And it will be coordinated from Helgeland!
